The Mormon Gaia Hypothesis

Gaia, the supreme Greek goddess of the earth.
I suppose we do not know the name of the earth but Gaia certainly is a beautiful name; I believe Mother Earth would be honored if we called her Gaia.

You see, Mormons believe the earth is alive, she is a living breathing, independent being - this may come as a surprise to some Mormons, but it is Mormon doctrine. The Mormon scriptures contain a slightly different version of the first two books of Enoch (the books of Enoch are now considered apocryphal books in most versions of the Bible). In the LDS (Mormon) scriptures the earth actually speaks, the experience was enough to make the prophet Enoch weep:

Moses 7:48 Reads,
And it came to pass that Enoch looked upon the earth; and he heard a voice from the bowels thereof, saying: Wo, wo is me, the mother of men; I am pained, I am weary, because of the wickedness of my children. When shall I rest, and be cleansed from the filthiness which is gone forth out of me? When will my Creator sanctify me, that I may rest, and righteousness for a season abide upon my face?

The earth spoke to Enoch. Mormon doctrine is that the earth is alive and is an intelligent entity.

There is more evidence for this in the Doctrine and Covenants. Section 88 contains great information (http://scriptures.lds.org/en/dc/88) verses 17 - 20, 25 - 27.

Open your eyes. Realize that your very scriptures say that the earth is a living, breathing being. Stop destroying her; not only should you respect Gaia but also all of God's creations. Verse 25 of Doctrine and Covenants 88 reads:

And again, verily I say unto you, the earth abideth the law of a celestial kingdom, for it filleth the measure of its creation, and transgresseth not the law—

How many of you can say that you "transgress not the law"? Destroying mother nature can be likened to sinisterly harming a fellow human; they are both creations of God and you do not know what you are destroying except that to harm the earth is to harm a being that, in a sense, is greater than you because it has never disobeyed God. How many of you can claim that?
This raises an interesting perspective about hunting, eating meat, deforestation, etc.
I suppose there is nothing wrong with killing animals for sustenance, but hunting for sport?

Stop what you are doing, it is a direct strike against God.
As ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren ye have done it unto me.
Do not be foolish enough to think that God's other creations are not included in that scripture.
